Tunbridge Wells - Kent - One of the Top Places to Vacation ( VIDEO )




Tunbridge Wells is in the glorious countryside of west Kent, England and located just 31 miles southeast of central London. Visitors have been attracted to this amazing area for over 400 years with its plentiful array of gardens, castles, and many other sties of interest. Two well known landmarks of the area include the Millennium Clock in the town center and The Pantiles, a popular street for pedestrians only with stores galore.

Within the town center sits Calverley Grounds, a park with a bandstand and many ornamental gardens. One of the many parks that are excellent for an afternoon picnic is Dunorlan Park, which spans over 78 acres, 6 of these acres being a lake. Also near the center of town is Grosvenor recreational area, the town's oldest public park, as well as the local nature reserve of Hilbert recreation ground. For a scenic walk, the eleven bridges and acres of woodlands in High Rocks can be traversed.

A guided walking tour can add a historical and informational aspect to any afternoon. During this walk, there is also the bonus glass of Chalybeate spring water that is provide by the "Dipper" in costume. These waters, containing iron salts, are what originally drew people to Tunbridge Wells 400 years earlier.

The Circular is also a great way to spend a day sight-seeing. By starting in the center of town, there are four short circular walks to choose from with many attractions along the way.

Spa Valley Railway offers trips to areas outside of Tunbridge Wells and there are many castles within a short distance of the town for the visiting romantics. Turning to indoor activities, there is the Museum and Art Gallery with contemporary art exhibits or even the Parish Church of King Charles the Martyr. This 17th century parish is considered unusual with its fantastic ceiling work. There is something for everyone in the marvellous town.
